Poem

...by Gerry Straub

The Poverty of God
No force controls God’s action,
which makes God all free.
God does as God wills.

God will give anything and everything for us.
This is the poverty of God,
the self-emptying love of God.

God does not accumulate;
God gives all away.

We are called to be like God,
to empty ourselves of everything
but love
and to share that love with others
and all creation
by becoming more and more merciful,
compassionate, forgiving and understanding.

"Sometimes I'd like to ask God why He allows poverty, famine, and injustice in the world when He could do something about it, but I'm afraid God would ask me the same question."

You don't change the world by trying to change the world; you change the world by changing yourself.
