Blog Etiquette

Friends... please help. Teach me about comments...

When I post a comment, sometimes I'll 'subscribe' to the replies to it but other times I will not. What do you do? Do you subscribe to comments every time you comment, just sometimes, or never at all?

When replying to comments, is it etiquette to just reply to others' comments on my blog or go to the person's blog?

I do a little of both because I'm never sure... well ok, sometimes I do know but only because I have tens (twos?) of dedicated stalkers who know exactly who they are. :P And my sister.

So... fill me in! What does one do???

I don't know that there is an etiquette that is "right."

I am a fairweather follow-up comments-er (how do you like that made up word for etiquette!) If it is a "subject" type post that I think will get a ton of people talking I will click follow-ups but then other times I will just check back later to see what anyone else said. I personally love how you reply to everyone's comments too, it's more interaction and is fun to see what you thought of what everyone had to say.

As for what you SHOULD do...whatever you want! This is YOUR blog!!! What your doing is right because you have me and many others coming back for more so keep it up!

I only subscribe to all comments if it's a subject I really want to hear others' thoughts about. Otherwise, I get way too many emails.

If someone makes a comment on MY blog that I want to comment on, I have started "replying" to it through email instead of posting another comment. But sometimes I post the comment to kind of keep the discussing going...just depends. Like Jess said, it's fun to go back and read the back and forth comments, too. But often I forget to go back and see if there are follow-up comments to a comment I made. (I'm making myself confused!)

Don't know if it's "right" or "wrong" but that's what I do...

I am so glad you posted this! I have no idea either, but now I know to make sure to come back and check your blog comments later...I usually forget! =)

How do you reply to emails? Usually I get something that says 'noreply-comment@blogger.com' or something like that... even if it's a registered user with a blog!

I've always wondered how to reply via email! Unless the person has an email listed on their profile, I am clueless about how to do this!

Help!

I've wondered about this too! I don't think there is any one right way to do it. I only subscribe to comments if I think it will be an intense debate.
I have had other bloggers respond to my comments by email and I like that, but I still haven't figured out how to do it yet.

I have the comment setting to notify me via email...so when a new comment is posted on my blog, I get an email. Then I have to choose to publish the comment or reject it (I always publish them). Then I can reply to that email notification and it goes directly to their email (I think).

I'm not sure what the correct blogging etiquette is.

I have the comments on my blog set to moderate, so that I'm always aware when someone leaves me a comment. I try to respond to everyone's comments as much as possible because I want the comments section of my blog to feel like a conversation and not a one-sided thing. And when I have a comment from someone who is new then I leave a "Welcome to the blog" comment in my comments section in response to their comment. Although I have the ability to do that now becasue I don't get tons of comments. I'm not sure what I would do if I got tons of comments every day.

I think you should just do whatever feels right to you since it's your blog.
